What it is
A soft wash of pigment through the lips that enhances their natural colour and can make the border look more defined. It is not a lipstick effect — the healed result is closer to a tinted balm than to make-up.
How it works
Colour is chosen against your natural lip tone, since your own pigment shows through the healed result. Pigment is worked through the lip body and the border is softened rather than drawn as a hard line.

Your treatment journey
- Consultation covering shape, colour, your daily look and anything in your medical history that affects suitability.
- Shape and colour mapped and agreed with you before any pigment is used.
- The appointment itself, with numbing applied throughout.
- Healing over four to six weeks, during which the colour changes considerably.
- A touch-up appointment at around four weeks to refine the healed result.
Results and what to expect
Lips swell noticeably on the day and the colour is very intense for the first few days before flaking. There is usually a stage around week two where the colour looks almost gone — it returns as the skin settles. True colour appears at four to six weeks.
Safety and common effects
Most people notice some of the following. They are temporary and expected rather than a problem:
- Marked lip swelling for one to two days
- Very intense colour for the first three to four days
- Dryness and flaking between days three and seven
- A stage where colour looks faded before it settles

Aftercare
Keep lips moisturised with the balm provided, do not pick flaking, avoid spicy and salty food while healing, and no swimming or saunas.

Common questions
Will it look like lipstick?
No. The healed result is a soft tint rather than a make-up finish, because your own lip colour shows through it.
I get cold sores. Can I still have it?
Tell your practitioner at consultation. Lip work can trigger an outbreak in people who are prone to them, and preventative steps are usually discussed with your doctor or pharmacist beforehand.
Why does the colour disappear in week two?
That stage is normal. The surface has healed over the pigment and it becomes visible again as the skin settles over the following weeks.
How swollen will my lips be?
Noticeably, on the day and often the following morning. Plan accordingly.
Can I choose a bright colour?
Colour choice is limited by your natural lip tone, which shows through. Your practitioner will show you what is realistic for you.
How long does it last?
Commonly two to three years before a refresh, though this varies with sun exposure and individual healing.
