What it is

Pigment placed along the upper and/or lower lash line. It ranges from a very subtle lash-line enhancement that simply makes lashes look denser, through to a more defined liner. The strength of the look is entirely your choice.

How it works

The eye area is numbed and the line is built up gradually, starting conservatively. Because the eyelid is delicate and swells readily, the work is paced carefully across the appointment.

Good fit for

  • Anyone who wears eyeliner daily and wants to skip the routine
  • Sparse-looking lash lines where subtle density is the goal
  • People who find applying liner difficult

Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone.

Your treatment journey

  1. Consultation covering shape, colour, your daily look and anything in your medical history that affects suitability.
  2. Shape and colour mapped and agreed with you before any pigment is used.
  3. The appointment itself, with numbing applied throughout.
  4. Healing over four to six weeks, during which the colour changes considerably.
  5. A touch-up appointment at around four weeks to refine the healed result.

Results and what to expect

Expect noticeable swelling for the first day or two — more than with brow work. The line looks thicker and darker initially and softens considerably as it heals. True colour appears at four to six weeks.

Safety and common effects

Most people notice some of the following. They are temporary and expected rather than a problem:

  • Marked swelling of the eyelids for one to three days
  • Watery eyes on the day
  • Flaking along the lash line between days four and eight
  • A period where the line looks lighter before settling

Before you book. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone. Tell your practitioner about any medication, skin condition, allergy or recent treatment at consultation rather than on the day.

Aftercare

No eye make-up or mascara while healing, no rubbing, no swimming, and follow the specific eye-area instructions given to you. Contact lens wearers should plan to wear glasses for a few days.

Common questions

How swollen will my eyes be?

Eyelids swell more than most people expect, usually peaking the morning after. Plan not to have anything important the next day.

Can I wear contact lenses?

Bring glasses for the appointment and plan to wear them for a few days afterwards. Discuss this with your practitioner beforehand.

Will it look like a thick black line?

Only if that is what you ask for. Most people choose a subtle lash-line enhancement that simply makes the lashes look fuller.

When can I wear mascara again?

Once healing is complete and your practitioner confirms it — usually around two weeks.

Can I have lash extensions at the same time?

No. Extensions need to be removed beforehand and can only be reapplied once healing is complete.

Is it safe near the eye?

It is performed with the eye closed and protected, by a trained practitioner. Tell your practitioner about any eye condition or eye surgery at consultation.
